About Markelangelo, and the covenant
Built by one writer who was tired of renting his own words back from other people's software.
What this is
Markelangelo is a desktop markdown editor with a deep AI authoring layer, a workshop, not a text box. It is made by André J, an independent developer, and it is shaped by a simple conviction: serious AI assistance and full ownership of your words are not a trade-off, they are the same product done properly.
The covenant
- Your files are yours. Plain markdown in ordinary files on your own disk. Open them in any editor, back them up any way you like, keep them forever. No proprietary format, no cloud you do not control.
- No account, no telemetry. You do not sign up to use Markelangelo, and it does not report on you. What you write stays between you and your computer.
- Nothing sent unless you ask. The only time your text crosses the network is when you run an AI request against a provider you chose, under a sovereignty stance you set. The app's only self-initiated request is its update check.
- Your keys, encrypted. Bring-your-own-key means the credentials are yours, stored encrypted on your device and used only to talk to the provider you named.
Why it matters
If you live in your documents, the writers, researchers, consultants and note-keepers who spend their days inside their words, this is the difference between a tool you rent and a tool you own. Your ideas, drafts and half-formed thoughts are some of the most personal things you make. They deserve a home that treats them as yours alone.
System requirements
- Windows: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), around 600 MB of disk space, 8 GB of RAM recommended. Internet only for cloud AI and the update check.
- Local models: running Ollama or LM Studio alongside has its own appetite; allow 16 GB of RAM or more for comfortable results.
- macOS: coming soon.
Where it is going
Markelangelo is in free preview and updates itself, with every change recorded in the public changelog. A paid studio edition, Sistine, is planned for writers who want the power without the setup; the free app remains the full product, not a demo. Contact and community links will appear here as they come online.
